“Foxes have holes and birds have nests but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head”
All our instincts, thoughts and memories about home make this issue of Saints Alive particularly rich. We are aware of the messages that our true home is with God for eternity; that we are called away from father and mother and brother and sister to follow Jesus; that we should not delay in following that call, and so on. We are also aware of messages that we should honor our parents, care for those around us, especially the needy and find a place of stability where we are, rather than constantly running after the next big thing. So home is both something we should be prepared to forgo and something we should enjoy and nurture.
The reflections in these pages can help us as we pursue our own vocations wherever God’s call seems to lead us. Perhaps they can also help us think through our own response to those who, for whatever reason, find themselves without homes, sleeping on our church steps and living on our streets as we look forward to a comprehensive plan for life on this block in the middle of Atlanta.
Happy Reading,
